The actual market for the product is recreation. It's not marketed as a life-saving device. That's for very good reason: Relying on Boost O2 to save your life at high altitude is dangerous. It's akin to relying on an office rubber band when bungee jumping. It's simply not enough.

Altitude sickness does indeed kill people. Boost will not save them.

This is why I'm particularly rousted by Boost: Because it makes otherwise reasonable people (I assume) like you say things like "this product can and will save lives". It literally can and will not. It may help someone with mild altitude sickness feel better. Sure. But if they're in distress severe enough to kill them, it will not help. And if they believe as you believe and they rely on a can of Boost to save them, they may very well die. It's a false sense of security.

That's incredibly dangerous, and irresponsible if Boost doesn't correct that misconception.

Don't believe me. Write to the people at Boost and ask them if you should rely on their product as a life-saving device. If they say anything but "no", then please forward their answer to me. You'll get to say "I told you so", so it's a win-win.

Treating severe altitude sickness (the kind that can kill you) is serious business. Again, don't believe me. Read this: http://www.jems.com/articles/print/volume-41/issue-6/features/treating-sickness-edema-caused-by-high-altitude.html

If Boost was just selling some magical crystals or dream catchers, I wouldn't be nearly as bothered by it. The real problem I have is that people's thought process is "hospitals use oxygen to save lives, and oxygen is oxygen, so why can't you use Boost to save lives?" The simple answer is: Tidal volume.

Generally speaking, if you can use the app outside of your house to control the appliance (or etc.) without having set up any kind of port forwarding on your home router, then the data is going through an intermediary. For reasons of security (unless you specifically set it up otherwise) traffic can only go out through your router (which usually includes a firewall as well). Same with your phone or other remote device.

So the only way they can communicate is by both contacting a server somewhere that allows the traffic in from each, and can relay messages between the two devices. In theory this could be secure from snooping if encryption is used by both (e.g.) your phone and your smart thermostat, with the third party being unaware of the encryption key. However, in reality the company running that server probably wants to collect data on all of its users as well as providing other services, so it would at best be encrypted between your phone and their server, and your smart thermostat and their server. They'll still see all of it.

And certainly if they go out of business or decide to stop supporting it, you're boned.

How would one check if their device(s) are guilty of using said setup? Specifically a recently acquired smart thermostat, hot tub interface, and home alarm system? Should I assume, since the remote control of these devices depends upon use of an app, that they all do that? Less worried about ADT going out of business than the thermostat people and the hot tub manufacturer...
I know your post is nine months old but I only just saw it now :-) so since you are responsible for this burning concern now taking up real estate in my brain, please fix it.

I researched FedEx, when I was seeing some weird transit status online. I ordered an airbed off of Amazon Prime, "Free 2 Day Delivery," to temporarily replace the bed I desperately had to get rid of. My orders usually come through UPS or USPS, and kind of caught me when it was being transferred by FedEx this time. Anyways, I saw in my tracking status, that my airbed left the carrier in Middletown, PA. early in the morning, and I checked back again to see where it was. It's in OHIO. My package crossed paths with the city I live in, passing me up entirely, and decided to drive 3 hours west of where I live, arriving at a carrier facility in Grove City, Ohio. So I am stuck sleeping on my floor for another night, just because FedEx doesn't believe in getting a package to somebody asap.

Hi Scott, excellent idea, thanks for the programming. I´m trying to use the file but it is not working. I get the following info:

Reading CSV File... DONE! (Stored 0 of 49506 records.)
Getting files...DONE! (Got 55 files.)
Renaming files...
DONE! (Success: 0, Failed: 0.)
FINISHED with 0 files renamed out of 55 files total, and 49506 CSV records total.

It seems to me that the CSV is the problems, but the CSV file that I am using seems to be alright (the files I´m trying to rename are in the CSV). I tried using the file names with and without the wav extension. Do you have any idea what could be happening?

Thanks!!

Scott. my encounter was pretty much the same as yours: Poor response time; when they do reply apparently they have either not read the email or failed to comprehend; after the sets of instructions failed, each time my request for help on a brand new device that was DOA was foisted off on a new person, who required a repeat of the problem; they said things that indicated they were unprepared to give me some sort of timeframe, they insisted it was at their option--and would not commit to any sort of timing. 4 weeks after the purchase, I have been lectured twice about using the Portal & FAQ. I already tried that, but am unwilling spend more hours searching the bramble of customer input, when surely it was a known problem. They go through extraordinary lengths to avoid customers. I agree with your assessment. Those who try to make it your fault are trolls. You were clear and concise. Their knee jerk snotty criticism does a disservice to those of us who had these very real problems. Maybe they're bored and the responses are how they get their jolles. BTW, how does a video of a non-vibrating watch prove it is not working?

Scott. my encounter was pretty much the same as yours: Poor response time; when they do reply apparently they have either not read the email or failed to comprehend; after the sets of instructions failed, each time my request for help on a brand new device that was DOA was foisted off on a new person, who required a repeat of the problem; they said things that indicated they were unprepared to give me some sort of timeframe, they insisted it was at their option–and would not commit to any sort of timing. 4 weeks after the purchase, I have been lectured twice about using the Portal & FAQ. I already tried that, but am unwilling spend more hours searching the bramble of customer input, when surely it was a known problem. They go through extraordinary lengths to avoid customers.
You can upload the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Digital Juice\Juicer 3.0 SoundFX Edition\SoundFx.db to http://inloop.github.io/sqlite-viewer/ if you want to view the raw sqlite database. You can also upload it to one of the many sqlite to csv conversion sites. Just google it :)

Hello, Mr. Scott, I found your article because I was getting worried. I just ordered checks from Chase on August 24th, JUST LAST MONTH - it's been over a week now and I still haven't gotten them! I told my Dad and he told me to keep an eye on my account online to make sure there's no fraud going on.

I usually do that anyway - but that scared me so bad so I went through Chase's check ordering process online and it redirected me to this:

A recent order for this account number has been shipped:

Date Order Shipped: August 25, 2016
Shipped Via: Standard Delivery
Allow 14 calendar days for printing and delivery.

And YES, no confirmation email! The only reason I was able to get that information was because I was already logged into Chase!

Also I had no idea how bad that Deluxe website is until I read this! Now I'm even more scared that they won't deliver squat! And I need those checks to pay for next month's rent!

But it's been less than two weeks still. I think maybe I should wait the rest of the two weeks and if nothing turns up, I'll go to Chase and get a refund. (I think they'd be reluctant to give me a refund just because of some article on the Internet saying Deluxe.com has very bad customer service and a very badly designed website. No offense to you, Scott, but that's probably how the Chase people would see it.)

Then I'll go to VistaPrint and get the fastest shipping possible! I'll pay the extra money - I just need the checks!

That's HORRIBLE that an established, respectable bank like Chase relies on a crap website like this that doesn't send confirmation emails or any tracking info! Why would they do that?! That just baffles me to no end!!

Now that we ve explored options for creating traces, let s talk about the components we can use with our circuits. Not all components play nice with paper circuit trace materials. For example, if you d like to solder connections, copper tape would be a better choice than a conductive ink. Here are a few of our suggestions of components to use in your projects.
