    I like the through the back wiring verses using conduit from below. What are the wire requirements?

    Minimum circuit requirement is a 240V 20A, so #12 wire (which is what I used) or thicker. If you’re running it in a wall you could go with NM-B (Romex), but I used MC (metal-clad) because I was doing a long exposed run in the garage attic. Plus I like the extra protection.

    Hi Scott,
    I’m going to be installing my Voltec this weekend. When you installed the receptacle where the #12 gauge wire comes in, did you put some sort of metal cover over it, or did you just mount the Voltec charger right over the receptacle? Does this even matter? Thanks!

      Hi Blair,

      Just to clarify, I removed the receptacle and box before installing the charge station. I should have shown the back of the unit before it went into the wall, but there are 2 plastic knockouts on the back with threads behind them for screwing in a cable connector. I used MC cable, so there’s an MC connector screwed into the Voltec, and then the MC cable from the meter is attached directly to that. You can see the back of the cable connector where the #12 comes through the back in the picture.

      In other words, there’s just the hole from the receptacle box behind the Voltec with the cable coming through. Fortunately I was able to position the Voltec to cover the hole, otherwise I’d have to get out the drywall mud. :)

      Oh, and congrats on getting the charge station. The 4 hour charge time is great for keeping Sparky topped off on the weekends.
